Slaves

In biblical times we see that there were so many slaves with no complaints. What I mean by this there is a chapter in Genesis 16:1-20 , where Hagar ( an egyptian slave) was given to her master's husband to have a child for her master. Through all this she still had faith in god. She was a big believer in god and praise god for all.... Even though, she was mistreated after the fact that she had conceived, and badly may I add, she knew that her son was going to be a person of a great nation....
In todays world where everything is always seeming to go wrong, we tend to blame God for all the wrong in our lives and do not want to take the responsibilities that has cause us to make poor choices even knowing the WORD of God... So many of us are so full of ourselves that we forget to give thanks to the Lord for even waking us up another day and what a blessing that alone is........

C) The Expository Sermon
As the word expository suggests, the goal is to set forth or "expose" the lessons contained within a given passage of scripture. In expository preaching every word is analyzed and every person whether a major or minor character is considered. One verse is studied in relationship to the verse that comes before and after. Careful exegesis of the biblical text is essential in expository preaching, because it is information learned in this solitary exercise that the preacher will share with the congregation. Expository preaching is a good place to do some work with the hebrew and greek texts, which offer insights into the original meaning of a passage. Expository preaching is meant to increase people's familiarity with the content, context, characters in thetext can be addressed and applied to the lives of the people who are hearing the sermon......
ie: then in the bible vs today ( yourself or use someone or something else as per 2008)

Three Point Dialectic Preaching....

Many preachers automatically think about preaching in relationship to the three points. The three point dialectic method may be use in the context of other types od sermons such as expository and topical. However, it deserves its own category because this method can serve as the essential approach to a sermon.. A classical three point sermon begins with a

1) Thesis,: A statement of how things are or how things should be. A thesis may also be a truth that should be embraced or an action that should be taken....
2) Antithesis: is the obstecle or problem preventing the thesis from being achieved, whether the desired outcome is an action or an affirmation.
3) The synthesis: is the solution that sermon is offering to the problem, or the setting forth of the ways in which the thesis can be accomplished. What makes this approach to preaching so authentic is that the synthesis (the solution to the problem) is the point at which the topic in question comes under biblical scrutiny and analysis. It is important that the topic of this kind of sermon be one of current interest and importance within society. The scripture text then serves as the lens through which that topic is considered. This approach can work with an endless list of the topics and texts. However three things are required from the preacher . First the thesis statement or the topical concern must be faithfully stated and described. Second , the opposing point of view ( or the reason why some people are not willing to act) must be considered with equal care. Finally, an honest and through exegetical review must take place as part of the synthesis....

Other forms and styles to use within a sermon

1) Narrative preaching an Biblical storytelling
This approach of preaching focuses on recounting the sequence of events leading up to , including and caoming in the wake of a particular event or moment in time ie: the crossing of the red sea, the effects of those present when a woman with an alabaster box anointed the feet of jesus in the house of a Pharisee....
These and dozens more are stories to be told and the appeal is less to the brain and the notion of understanding but more to the senses and the creation of an experience. However, the desired outcome is the same: to draw listeners in by induction until encounter the truth or lesson that the story seeks to communicate the key to biblical storytelling and narrative preaching is your own intimate familiarity with the biblical stories themselves . Storytelling is an art form that preachers should most definitely cultivate in the preaching. this is accomplished in part through the use of maximun detail ( this also lengthens out your sermon) so that senses as well as the brain are all working to receive the message. Describe the heat of the sun, imagine the sound of the wind, dramatize the pain someone was enduring.. Depict the full palette of colors. Explore the sounds and scents. Utter dramatically, for emphasis, any words spoken as part of a conversation.
